Rayon is a semi-synthetic fabric made of cellulose fiber such as wood pulp or bamboo. Soft, silky and lightweight, it has a similar drape to silk and a smooth hand, yet it is also a strong fabric. Rayon’s fluid drape makes it a great choice for flowing clothing, from drapey tops to loose bottoms. It’s moisture absorbency and breathability also make it popular for athletic wear. To sew rayon, use a 80/11 needle and cotton or all-purpose thread. Prewash rayon to avoid shrinkage. To care for your rayon makes, wash in cold water on the delicate cycle, and avoid the tumble dryer. When pressing rayon use a medium heat dry iron and a pressing cloth.
